A Turkish proverb says that coffee should be “black as night, hot as hell, strong as sin and sweet as love.” But times have changed and coffee can be whatever you want it to be: cold like a Constanza morning, foamy like clouds, with aromas borrowed from cinnamon, liquor or cayenne pepper… The possibilities of coffee are limitless!
Although nothing beats the perfect simplicity of a good coffee brewed in greca and served in your favorite cup, coffee is versatile, can be combined with other ingredients, and is capable of surprising even the most purist of coffee drinkers with its possibilities. That’s why we propose these 5 ways to prepare and combine your coffee:
This creamy and photogenic coffee preparation has gone viral on social networks, and while the original recipe features instant coffee, which is not as aromatic and complex as roasted coffee, with an extra step you can make your dalgona coffee using quality coffee. You just have to grind the coffee beans very well; for that, you pour a spoonful of coffee beans in a grinder and grind for a few minutes until it has a super fine consistency, almost powder.
Then put an equal amount of coffee, sugar, and hot water in a bowl (most recipes use about two tablespoons of each ingredient). Then, using a whisk, blender, or milk frother, beat the three ingredients until foamy peaks form. Finally, pour about half a glass of the milk of your choice and the whipped coffee foam over it for a truly aesthetic blend worthy of Instagram or Tik Tok.
Cold brewed coffee is perfect for tropical heat, easier to make than it looks, and you don’t have to go to Starbucks and pay $$$ to enjoy it! Prepare it in advance with this easy guide: Simply add two tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee to an airtight glass container (like a Mason jar) along with a cup and a half of water and let it sit in the fridge for at least one night. Strain it and enjoy it with cream, a touch of liquor or the sweetener of your choice. Keep in mind that cold-brewed coffee has more delicate aromas and a less bitter taste, but it has more caffeine.
Probably not the ideal morning drink, although we don’t judge you! Add some Bailey’s or Khalua and some brown sugar to hot coffee, cover it with whipped cream, and enjoy a creamy and aromatic drink. Play with proportions until you find the perfect balance between the flavors of coffee and liquor. Experiment with whiskey, rum, or brandy.
Add a teaspoon of spices to the ground coffee before preparing it to add tones of flavor without silencing the aroma of the coffee. The spices that best suit coffee are cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper.
Enjoy a steak topped with a spicy espresso. Rubbing the meat with the coffee and spice mixture gives it an incredible depth of flavor and will create a crispy crust on the outside of the steak. Combine two tablespoons of finely ground coffee beans, a half of pepper, a half of garlic powder, one tablespoon of sugar, and chili powder to taste in a small bowl and rub generously over your steak. Grill or bake and enjoy.
As glorious as it is on its own, dare to find your best companions. Whether you prepare it in new ways or add other flavors, coffee, in each of its forms, is everyone’s favorite drink. Dare to diversify the way you give yourself the best taste of the day.
